You must first invision the goal in the thought plane to manifest the goal in the physical plane. Everyone has their own definition of victory. Some people would consider anything more than what they had previously accomplished a victory. There is truth in that statement as long as you don't become complacent with where you are currently at.
In the months leading up to October 17th, 2010 I had planned to race the Des Moines marathon. My run training was indicating that a sub 6 minute mile pace was possible. 30 days before 10/17/10 I changed my mind and decided to race one more triathlon instead of the marathon: the Austin Longhorn Ironman 70.3 Half Ironman. My goal was to place in the top 3 amateur overall. On 10/17/10, I experienced a taste of victory by placing 2nd in the amateur division at the Austin Longhorn 70.3 Half Ironman.
You can reverse my time of 4:11:14 around and you are left with the same number sequence 4:11:14. It just so happens that I was the 14th fastest overall with the 14th fastest run. That's alot of 1's and 4's. You've heard the saying: "All 4 one and one 4 all." This quote represents the freedom to think and speak for yourself. If you take off the 4 in 14th you are left with the 1 in 1st. Someday I will be one in 1st. If you believe in yourself then you can be the one in 1st too.
As long as you trust your inner guidance and intuition you can accomplish miracles. You don't need me or anyone else to guide you all you need is your own self confidence. Was I physically trained to race a half ironman to the best of my ability? The answer is no, thirty days isn't enough time to get into top notch swim and bike shape. Could I have given up when I started losing power at mile 35 of the bike or when I started cramping at mile 4 of the run? Easily, but instead I used the power of my mind to stay positive and continue pushing. The moral of the story is to use your mind to overcome physical limitations.
